Jim Helmer has seen a lot in the last 36 years. He's seen the cost of a gallon of regular gasoline jump from 62 cents to nearly four dollars at times. He's seen a first class postage stamp jump from 13 cents to nearly 50 cents. He's also coached the Southwestern College cross country program to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. And he's done that 50 times. Helmer is hoping to hang at least one more banner before he retires in May, and that chance will come this weekend as Southwestern hosts the 2013 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at the Winfield Veterans Home.
